Sea Glass
I am like a piece of green glass on a pebbly seashore.
Rough edges and impurities smoothed and polished
As it is relentlessly tumbled by the waves.
Shaped, marked, and forever changed by the seas.
I am not alone on this seashore.
Shared with rocks and shells and driftwood.
Bounced and rolled against one another,
Each being molded uniquely by the seas.
Except these seas are not briny or choppy.
Rather they are deep. And life giving.
Seas of pure grace. Unmerited.
Seas of radical love. Unconditional.
I am who I am today because of these seas.
Surrendered to the smoothing and polishing.
It is not always a pretty process and often feels mundane.
But I know I’m being fashioned into something beautiful.
This journey I am on, from rough to polished
Is a story that is uniquely my own.
But the changing and growing and becoming
Is a part of being on the seashore of life.
So join us in the learning and the polishing
As we let God change us for the better.
May you find love, truth and peace in this place
May we be washed with seas of pure grace.
